Meru 3.42.2, developed by Tim Cheung, is an open-source desktop client whose single purpose is to reproduce the complete Gmail environment outside the browser. By wrapping the familiar web interface in a native frame, the program eliminates tab clutter and browser chrome, giving users a dedicated, distraction-free space for reading, searching, labeling and composing messages. The client is especially useful for professionals who keep several Gmail addresses active throughout the day, for teams that rely on Google Workspace mail but prefer not to keep the browser open, and for anyone who wants system-level notifications, dock/taskbar integration and offline caching without installing the full-blown Outlook or Thunderbird ecosystem. Because Meru simply surfaces the official Gmail engine, every Google feature—from keyboard shortcuts and canned responses to multiple account sign-in and Google Chat—remains intact, while extras such as global hotkeys, custom CSS theming and notification badges are layered on top. The project has progressed through sixty-six public iterations, demonstrating steady refinement: recent builds add ARM64 support, reduce idle memory usage and introduce a portable mode that keeps credentials on a removable drive. As an e-mail client that exclusively serves Gmail, Meru sits in the “Communication” or “E-mail” software category and is updated regularly to match Google’s own pace of change. The application is available for free on get.nero.com, with downloads provided via trusted Windows package sources such as winget, always delivering the latest version and supporting batch installation of multiple applications.
